In a move that reinforces the government's commitment to fair and affordable travel, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has commended the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) for promptly taking action against AirAsia MOVE after it was found to have posted unreasonably high airfares on its booking platform.
This decisive step by the CAB, which resulted in a ₱6 million penalty for the airline, aligns closely with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure that all Filipinos have access to safe, fair, and reasonably priced travel options. The DOTr emphasized that such enforcement measures are vital in upholding consumer protection and ensuring accountability in the aviation sector.
“The swift action taken by CAB sends a clear and strong message,” the DOTr stated. “Abusive pricing practices will not be tolerated. We will remain vigilant in protecting the rights of Filipino travelers.”
By holding AirAsia MOVE accountable, the government reaffirms its stand against exploitative practices in the transportation industry. The DOTr also assured the public that it will continue working closely with regulatory bodies to ensure that passenger welfare remains a top priority, especially as more Filipinos rely on air travel for work, leisure, and personal needs.
As the country continues to recover and grow, the DOTr reiterated its commitment to fostering a transportation system that is inclusive, fair, and firmly grounded in the public interest.
