DOTr Puts Brakes On Old MRT-3 Baggage Policy: 'Let's Make Life Easier For Commuters'
FILE
Heads up, MRT-3 riders. That outdated rule about hand-carried luggage? It’s officially on pause—thanks to newly appointed DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon.
After being briefed on the old policy that limits the size of luggage you can bring onboard the MRT-3, Secretary Dizon didn’t waste any time. He immediately raised an eyebrow (figuratively, of course) and asked the very question we’ve all been wondering: Why make commuting even harder?
Acting quickly, he instructed MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati to suspend the policy and give it a full review. The goal? Make sure commuters don’t have to deal with unnecessary inconvenience—especially when they’re already juggling a lot during their daily rides.
GM Capati responded just as swiftly. The controversial policy is now officially suspended, and a full review is underway to make sure it actually makes sense for the public.
The MRT-3 management also emphasized that public feedback plays a key role in shaping future policies. So yes, your voice matters.
For now, if you’ve been worried about whether your bag will pass some arbitrary size check at the MRT, you can breathe a little easier. The focus is shifting back to what really matters: giving commuters a smoother, more practical experience.
Let’s hope this is just the start of more commuter-friendly changes on the horizon.
