Manila, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will temporarily halt all bidding activities for locally-funded projects nationwide, Secretary Vince Dizon announced today, September 3.
The suspension, which will last for a maximum of two weeks, is part of an internal review following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen transparency and integrity in the implementation of public infrastructure projects.
“I will issue an order today to pause all ongoing bidding of locally funded projects,” Dizon said. “The President does not want any more government funds wasted on substandard projects. This review is necessary to ensure that every peso is spent properly and every project serves the people.”
According to Dizon, the review will allow the DPWH to introduce additional safeguards in its procurement processes. These measures will be announced in the coming days.
The suspension will apply to all locally-funded projects at the national, regional, and district levels. However, foreign-assisted projects will continue as scheduled since these are closely monitored by international partners and advisors.
Dizon assured the public that the temporary halt is aimed at restoring trust and accountability within the agency. “We are giving our new team two weeks to put these safeguards in place, and we will announce them as early as Monday,” he said.
