DSWD Chief Moves To Oust Iloilo Officials Over AICS Corruption

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has filed administrative charges before the Office of the Ombudsman against several local officials in Iloilo City following allegations of corruption involving cash assistance meant for individuals in crisis.
The move comes after a report submitted to Gatchalian by DSWD Western Visayas revealed multiple grievances from AICS beneficiaries. According to the findings, some local officials allegedly pocketed ₱8,000 from each beneficiary during the November 11 payout—leaving rightful recipients with only ₱2,000 of the intended assistance.
Secretary Gatchalian condemned the misconduct, stressing that such abuse has no place in the agency’s programs. He reaffirmed the DSWD’s commitment to ensuring that all forms of social aid reach the people they are meant to help, without interference or exploitation.
Criminal complaints are also being prepared as the agency continues to gather and evaluate evidence. The DSWD says more actions will follow to hold accountable anyone involved in compromising the integrity of its social protection services.
