DTI Confirms Resignation Of PCAB Exec And Two Board Members Amid Industry Challenges

Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Roque has confirmed that three key officials from the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) have stepped down from their posts. They are PCAB Executive Director Atty. Herbert Matienzo and two board members who tendered their resignations earlier this week.
According to Secretary Roque, Atty. Matienzo submitted his resignation on September 3, citing personal reasons in his letter. “He gave us his letter of resignation on September 3 and I accepted it the same day. We’ve already appointed an Officer-in-Charge for the position, and we’ll release the name shortly,” Roque shared during a media briefing.
When asked if there were other officials who resigned, the trade secretary confirmed that two PCAB board members had also left their posts a day earlier, on September 2. However, because these positions are presidential appointees, their resignations are still awaiting formal acceptance by the President. “Yes, dalawang PCAB Board members already resigned nung September 2 pa and they are just awaiting for the President to accept their recognition kasi Presidential Appointee po sila,” Roque clarified.
While these developments raise questions, Secretary Roque emphasized that not everyone in the agency is involved in issues. She highlighted the importance of maintaining focus on industry growth despite challenges. “Hindi naman lahat part of a problem. There are also people who contribute to the growth of the industry. Of course, we’re addressing the problems, but we also need to make sure these sectors continue to grow because we need to move forward,” she stressed.
Roque reiterated that the resignations were due to personal reasons and that the DTI is already implementing measures to ensure continuity in PCAB’s operations.
