The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has announced the immediate implementation of a nationwide price freeze following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s approval of the state of national calamity declaration.

In a statement released on November 7, 2025, the DTI said the price freeze on all basic necessities will remain in effect for 60 days, or until lifted by the President. The move is part of the government’s efforts to protect consumers from sudden price hikes amid the ongoing crisis.

“As chair of the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC), the DTI will immediately implement the automatic price freeze on all basic necessities,” the agency said.

The DTI added that it has already coordinated with key NPCC implementing agencies to ensure compliance across the country. These agencies are tasked to monitor markets, prevent overpricing, and address potential supply disruptions.

To keep essential goods available, the DTI assured the public that it is working closely with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to maintain sufficient and stable supplies.

“All DTI Regional and Provincial Offices are on heightened alert and mobilized to enforce compliance with the price freeze and maintain adequate supply nationwide,” the department said.

The agency also reminded businesses to strictly observe the freeze, warning that violators could face penalties under the Price Act (Republic Act No. 7581).

The DTI encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of overpricing, hoarding, or unfair trade practices to the nearest DTI office or via its official hotline.
