Early Morning Shake Felt In Albay And Nearby Areas-No Damage Or Aftershocks Expected

An early morning earthquake gave residents in parts of Bicol a bit of a surprise today—but thankfully, no damage or aftershocks are expected.
According to PHIVOLCS Earthquake Information No. 2, the quake hit at 2:35 AM on May 30, 2025, with a magnitude of 4.8. The tremor was tectonic in origin and struck at a depth of 76 kilometers. Its epicenter was located 5 kilometers northeast of Rapu-Rapu in Albay.
While the quake was relatively moderate, it was still felt in several areas:
• Intensity III was reported in Santo Domingo, Albay
• Intensity II in Tabaco City, Albay
• Intensity I in Legazpi City, Albay
Instrumental intensities also registered in nearby provinces:
• Intensity III in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon
• Intensity II in Bulusan, Sorsogon and Iriga City, Camarines Sur
• Intensity I in Daet, Camarines Norte and Panganiban, Catanduanes
Despite the tremor being felt across multiple areas, PHIVOLCS has assured the public that no damage or aftershocks are expected.
So while it may have been a shaky start for some, there's no need to worry—just another reminder to stay earthquake-ready, just in case.
