Senator JV Ejercito is taking a stand against cyberbullying and online hate through a new measure dubbed the “Emman Atienza Bill” — named in memory of Emman Atienza, the late daughter of his friend and TV personality Kim Atienza.

Filed under the Anti-Online Hate and Harassment Bill, the proposed law aims to protect Filipinos — especially the youth — from the growing threats of cyberbullying, fake news, and online defamation.

Ejercito said that while social media has become a powerful space for truth and connection, it has also turned into a breeding ground for rumors, hate, and false accusations.

“While social media serves as a platform to advocate for truth, it has also given room for ruining reputations, spreading fake news, rumors, false accusations, and violence,” the senator said.

“In reality, there are no delete or edit buttons for the ones we have hurt.”

The senator added that he hopes Emman’s passing will not be in vain as he pushes for the measure’s immediate passage.

“We need to bring back kindness online — where people pause and think before they post,” Ejercito stressed.

“We must prevent another tragedy where our youth are pushed to the breaking point by the cruelty of online hate.”

Through this bill, Ejercito hopes to make the internet a safer, kinder space — one post at a time.
