Former Bamban mayor Alice Guo and 35 others are now facing graft and corruption charges after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed a case against them. The allegations involve tax evasion and illegal land conversion linked to a property used by a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) in Bamban, Tarlac.

According to resigned NBI Director Jaime Santiago, the property in question has an appraised value of ₱3.9 billion, yet only ₱10,000 in real property taxes was reportedly paid by Guo and other officials. Investigators also claimed that the land conversion was done without proper authorization, raising concerns about possible corruption and conflict of interest.

Aside from graft and corruption, Guo and the others are also facing charges for possession of prohibited interest by a public officer. Administrative complaints for gross misconduct, serious dishonesty, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service were also filed before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Guo, who has previously been tagged as a suspected Chinese spy, has yet to issue a statement on the latest allegations.
