The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on Monday, September 8, took a firm stand, citing former Bulacan 1st District assistant engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez in contempt. The move came after he repeatedly denied information about his alleged high-stakes casino gambling.
During the hearing, senators grilled Hernandez about his activities, with Senator Rodante Marcoleta presenting evidence that he allegedly used the alias Marvin Santos de Guzman when gambling. When asked to confirm this, Hernandez became evasive, which prompted the committee to move for a contempt citation.
"Give me a good reason why I should not cite you in contempt," Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada challenged him.
Despite being confronted with documents, including a certification from Okada showing his registered name as "Marvin Santos de Guzman," Hernandez continued to deny it.
He claimed he didn't know the alias, stating he was only given a membership number and that the money he used wasn't his—it belonged to his boss, a certain D. Henry Alcantara.
With Hernandez refusing to budge on his denials, Senator Erwin Tulfo made a motion to cite him in contempt. The motion was seconded by Senator Estrada and approved, resulting in Hernandez being held for his lack of cooperation and honesty.
