Ex-Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez Named New Chair Of Senior Citizens Commission

Former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
Her appointment was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on October 17, 2025, and she will serve a term that runs until September 17, 2031.
Gutierrez brings decades of experience in public service to her new post. She previously served as Ombudsman from 2005 to 2011 and as Justice Secretary during the Arroyo administration. Before taking the NCSC helm, she has also been a member of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Board of Trustees since 2023.
Her appointment is expected to strengthen the commission’s programs and initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare and rights of senior citizens across the country.
