It’s a sad day for the Philippine Eagle Foundation, and for everyone who followed the journey of a very special eaglet named Riley.

Though his time with us was short, Riley left a huge impact. From the moment he hatched, this little eagle captured the hearts of many and became a symbol of hope for a critically endangered species. Every milestone he reached—every wing flap, every growth spurt—was celebrated not just by the people who cared for him every day, but by a whole community rooting for his survival.

Sadly, the Philippine Eagle Foundation has announced that Riley has passed away.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of animal keepers, veterinarians, and support staff gave Riley the best care possible. Their devotion didn’t go unnoticed, and neither did the outpouring of love from eagle supporters everywhere. The foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who followed Riley’s story and supported the mission of protecting our national bird.

A full necropsy is being done to understand what led to Riley’s passing. As heartbreaking as this moment is, it reinforces how fragile life is for the Philippine eagle—and how important it is to keep fighting for their future.

Riley may be gone, but the inspiration he sparked lives on.
