Ginebra Roars Back To Life; Crushes Cold-Shooting TNT

After a flat start in their Manila Clasico loss to Magnolia, Barangay Ginebra came out recharged and ready to remind everyone who they are.

The Gin Kings delivered a statement win on Wednesday night, dismantling TNT Tropang 5G, 92-77, in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“We weren’t clicking at all in that game (against Magnolia), but tonight we were clicking on all cylinders,” said coach Tim Cone, crediting their 10-day break for the turnaround.

Leading the charge was Japeth Aguilar, who powered his way to a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double — a strong showing as he continues to recover from off-season hand surgery.

Troy Rosario added his own double-double of 13 points and 13 boards, while last season’s Rookie of the Year RJ Abarrientos dropped 14 despite battling the flu. Scottie Thompson also bounced back from a scoreless opener, finishing with 10 points and nine assists.

With the win, Ginebra evened their record at 1-1, matching TNT’s slate after Chot Reyes’ squad failed to sustain the momentum of their 93-78 win over Phoenix.

Simon Enciso was the lone bright spot for the Tropang 5G, erupting for 17 points—all in the fourth quarter—but it was too little, too late. RR Pogoy (9), Calvin Oftana (6), and Rey Nambatac (3) all struggled against Ginebra’s suffocating defense.

Ginebra’s bounce-back performance showed the heart of a champion—and if this is any indication, the Kings are just getting started.
