Gov. Gwen Fights Back: 10 Cyber Libel Cases Eyed Over Wild Online Claims
Screengrab from The Freeman
Looks like Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has had enough of all the online drama.
In a press conference, her private legal counsel, Atty. Alex Avisado, made it clear: they’ve recommended filing 10 counts of cyber libel against two Cebuanos accused of spreading malicious and downright false stories about the governor on Facebook.
The posts? Wild.
They didn’t just throw shade — they hurled serious accusations, including claims of unexplained wealth, whispers that the governor’s child supposedly owns two airplanes, and even a rumor about a luxurious $10 million yacht (and yes, they stressed that’s dollars, not pesos!).
“It’s about time na papanagutin namin kayo,” Avisado said firmly, signaling that they’re ready to take legal action.
But that’s not all. Avisado also threw a reminder to everyone who loves to share unverified chismis online: Be careful.
“If you share false information, you could be held liable too,” he warned.
In short? Think twice before hitting that share button — lalo na if you’re not 100% sure it’s true.
The case has now been recommended to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and it looks like some serious accountability is about to happen.
