It was a power-packed Friday at Meralco’s Ortigas compound as information officers from national and local government agencies gathered for a deep dive into energy management, healthcare programs, and voter education.

Hosted by the Association of Information Officers in Metro Manila (AIMM) in collaboration with Meralco, the First Quarter Full Members’ Meeting saw key discussions on how to better inform the public about crucial services.

“We (Meralco) are really reaching out to various information officers in order to provide accurate and relevant information to our communities,” said Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice-President and Head of Corporate Communications. “This partnership is very beneficial to us, the public, and the customers we serve.”

Energy-Saving Hacks from Meralco Experts

With electricity bills always a hot topic, Rita Capalad, Consumer Care Officer at Meralco, broke down bill charges and shared practical tips on saving energy. Meralco Power Lab’s John Pocholo Pabillona also advised keeping air conditioning units at 25 degrees Celsius to cut down on costs—a timely reminder as the country heeds President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for responsible energy consumption.

Keeping Filipinos Informed and Empowered

AIMM Co-Chair and DBM Undersecretary Goddes Hope Libiran emphasized the importance of transparency, urging information officers to “champion transparency and continue to empower citizens with their right to know.”

Meanwhile, PhilHealth’s Raymond Acoba highlighted healthcare programs aimed at ensuring every Filipino has access to quality medical services.

Election Reminders: Don't Overvote

As election season heats up, Pasig City Election Officer Atty. Ronald Santiago reminded attendees about key voting guidelines. One critical tip? “Shading more than 12 senatorial bets will invalidate your list,” he warned, underscoring the importance of following voting rules for the upcoming May 12 elections.

Meralco’s hosting of the event underscores its commitment to strengthening partnerships with government communicators, ensuring that Filipinos have easy access to essential information on energy, healthcare, and voter education.
