Wisdom, service, and heart took center stage at the 2nd Gawad Parangal for Exemplary Senior Citizens 2025, as the nation celebrated the remarkable lives and legacies of Filipino elders last October 15 at the QC MICE Convention Center.
Organized by the Senior Citizens Party-List led by Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong” Ordanes, the annual event recognized 22 outstanding senior citizens from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao for their exceptional service and dedication to their communities.
“These are the people who continue to prove that age is not a barrier to making a difference,” said Ordanes, who emphasized that seniors remain vital voices in building a compassionate and inclusive society.
Honoring Lifelong Service
This year’s ceremony also featured a special recognition — the 2025 Cong. Jun Datol Natatanging Pagkilala Award — given to nine senior citizens who have long been steadfast partners of the Senior Citizens Party-List and government programs promoting the rights and welfare of the elderly.
Continuing the Fight for Senior Rights
In his 20th Congress Accomplishment Report, Ordanes reaffirmed his group’s commitment to the KKK framework — Kalusugan, Kasiyahan, at Kabuhayan, aiming to ensure that every Filipino senior lives with dignity, joy, and security.
Among their top priorities are the Universal Social Pension, Geriatric Health Programs, Employment Opportunities for Seniors, and the Graduated Senior Citizens Act, which expands benefits based on age.
Although DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian was unable to attend, Assistant Secretary Edmon Monteverde delivered his message of support, underscoring the government’s ongoing dedication to protect and uplift the elderly.
A Celebration of Life and Legacy
The event also marked the culmination of Elderly Filipino Week, highlighting the vital role seniors play in shaping families, communities, and the nation itself.
“Our senior citizens are not relics of the past — they are living testaments of resilience, love, and service,” Ordanes said. “Every policy we craft and every program we build must ensure that no senior citizen is left behind.”
As the audience rose in applause, the message was clear: the Gawad Parangal is more than an awards ceremony — it’s a call to action to honor, protect, and empower the elders who continue to guide the Filipino nation with wisdom and grace.
