House To Subpoena Five Firms Over DPWH Flood Control Probe
Screengrab from Congress PH
The House of Representatives is set to issue subpoenas to five construction firms that failed to attend its joint hearing on alleged irregularities in flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Rep. Terry Ridon announced the move on Tuesday, following the absence of the contractors that were earlier summoned to the inquiry. Lawmakers emphasized that the firms’ participation is essential in examining whether the flood control projects were implemented properly and in accordance with government standards.
The firms identified are Alpha & Omega General Contractor & Development Corp., St. Timothy Construction Corporation, Royal Crown Monarch Construction and Supplies Corp., Wawao Builders, and SYMS Construction Trading.
The House probe has gained significant attention, with questions raised over how billions of pesos in public funds for flood mitigation were spent. Lawmakers are scrutinizing whether irregularities, substandard work, or questionable dealings may have affected the projects.
By issuing subpoenas, the House will compel the contractors to attend the next hearings and present documents relevant to the investigation. Non-compliance could lead to contempt charges.
The committees leading the inquiry are expected to resume their hearings in the coming weeks, with members vowing to press for accountability and transparency in the handling of public infrastructure projects.
