Popular social media influencer Cherry White surrendered her driver’s license during a hearing on Friday, July 18, in connection with her viral reckless driving video filmed along a road in Cainta, Rizal.
The hearing is part of the government’s intensified campaign to enforce road safety regulations, following the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to uphold the safety of all road users.
Acting Assistant Secretary and Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr., welcomed Cherry White’s decision to admit her mistake, apologize, and cooperate with the investigation conducted by the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division.
“We in the LTO appreciate the humility shown by Ms. Cherry White,” Pua said. “As a popular social media personality, we hope she can become an ally in promoting road safety.”
Pua underscored the importance of the campaign, pointing out the many lives lost to preventable road accidents each year.
During the hearing, Cherry White explained that she originally posted the now-controversial video on her Instagram account about three months ago, but another netizen’s repost caused it to go viral. She also addressed a separate online comment she had made—criticizing LTO personnel in an inappropriate manner—which she said was a result of the intense backlash she received. She publicly apologized for that remark as well.
LTO-IID head Renante Melitante reminded her to be more mindful of her influence, particularly when it comes to posts that could undermine road safety. Cherry White assured the LTO that she would be more responsible moving forward and even promised to create a post urging her followers not to imitate her actions in the viral video.
The LTO has given her camp until Monday to submit documents pertaining to the vehicle she was driving at the time of the incident.
Previously, the LTO issued a show cause order against Cherry White, which suspended her license for 90 days and placed the vehicle she was driving under alarm.
In the words of Atty. Pua, the agency sees this as an opportunity not just to enforce rules but also to educate—and to turn influencers like Cherry White into advocates for safer roads.
