Justice has caught up with the killer of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Dafnie Nacalaban.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed that a Kuwaiti court has sentenced the main suspect to 14 years in prison for Nacalaban’s brutal killing.
“The new development here is the other case, the OFW who had been slain as well, found in the garden. Three other accessories were also convicted in their respective sentences as accomplices,” Cacdac said in a press briefing at the DMW office in Mandaluyong City.
Nacalaban’s tragic story shook the Filipino community in Kuwait. She was reported missing in October 2024, and by December 31, her body was found buried in the yard of her employer’s home in Saad Al-Abdullah, Jahra. Authorities said she had already been in an advanced state of decomposition when discovered — following a police report filed by a sibling of the suspect.
The suspect, a Kuwaiti national with a criminal record, later confessed to the crime.
After months of coordination between Philippine and Kuwaiti authorities, Nacalaban’s remains were brought home on February 21, 2025, with the help of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the DMW.
Meanwhile, Cacdac shared that the government is also closely monitoring another case involving a Filipina worker convicted in the death of her employer’s son.
“Yes, she had been convicted, but that matter is on appeal,” Cacdac assured. “She has legal counsel and receives regular visits from our legal team in Kuwait.”
