LGU Bulusan Clarifies Remarks After Vice Ganda's 'Broken School' Comment

The local government of Bulusan, Sorsogon, has issued a statement addressing comments made by TV host and comedian Vice Ganda about a public school in the municipality that went viral on social media.

During the October 24, 2025 episode of It’s Showtime on ABS-CBN, Vice Ganda reportedly referred to Bagacay Elementary School as “bulok” (broken) and said it lacked reading materials. A short clip of the remark quickly circulated online, prompting mixed reactions.

“Bulok ang eskwelahan sa probinsya ni Heart Evangelista at walang mga reading materials,” Vice Ganda said during the show.

In its official statement, the LGU of Bulusan clarified that the school in question has long had a permanent classroom built by the Department of Education (DepEd) and is equipped with textbooks and supplementary reading materials. The municipality emphasized that the comment misrepresented the current condition of the school.

According to the LGU, Vice Ganda previously visited Bagacay Elementary School on September 26, 2023, and pledged to help improve its facilities. Donations totaling ₱67,360 were reportedly turned over between December 2023 and January 2024, which were used for classroom refurbishments, restroom tiling, and internet connectivity expenses.

The local government expressed gratitude for Vice Ganda’s generosity but said the recent televised comment caused embarrassment to teachers and local officials who have worked to improve the school’s facilities.

“Nabalewala ang lahat ng pagsusumikap ng mga guro at pamunuan … para mabigyan ng kaaya-ayang paaralan ang mga kabataan,” the statement read.

The LGU also stressed that Heart Evangelista-Escudero had no connection to the school issue, refuting online speculation linking her to the remarks.

Municipal officials said they will continue coordinating with DepEd-Sorsogon and the provincial government to address educational needs in Bulusan “with genuine intent to help learners, not for propaganda.”

The statement also acknowledged Senator Francis Escudero’s continued support for local education programs, particularly during the pandemic, and reaffirmed the town’s commitment to improving school facilities.
