LPA And Habagat To Bring More Rains Across The Country

The country is once again facing unstable weather as a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, combine forces to bring rains over many parts of the Philippines.

As of 3:00 PM today, August 25, the LPA was spotted about 290 kilometers northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, or 130 kilometers east northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. At the same time, the southwest monsoon continues to affect the western section of Southern Luzon.

Communities in Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, SOCCKSARGEN, MIMAROPA, and Antique should expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms mainly due to the monsoon. The state weather bureau warns that moderate to heavy downpours could lead to flash floods and landslides in these areas.

Meanwhile, the LPA is bringing similar weather conditions to Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, the Bicol Region, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the rest of the Visayas. Rainfall here may also be moderate to at times heavy, raising the same risks of flooding and landslides.

The rest of the country can expect relatively calmer skies with a mix of sunshine and clouds, although localized thunderstorms remain possible in the afternoon or evening. Even isolated downpours can be dangerous, as severe thunderstorms may still trigger flooding or landslides.

Authorities continue to urge residents, particularly those in low-lying or landslide-prone communities, to remain alert and monitor official weather updates. With both the LPA and habagat active, the next few days are likely to remain wet and unpredictable.
