The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has moved swiftly following the tragic road crash in Libod, Camalig, Albay that claimed the lives of 11 people. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao ordered a 90-day suspension of the truck driver’s license while the investigation is underway.
LTO-Regional Office V, led by Regional Director Edgar Allan Castillejos, also issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to the truck driver, Recson Zamora of Daet, Camarines Norte, and the vehicle’s registered owner, Miguel Cerdeno of Tiwi, Albay.
According to the spot report from the Camalig Municipal Police Station, the truck allegedly lost its brakes before crashing into a passenger van, sending both vehicles plunging down a ravine into a river.
The LTO has directed both Zamora and Cerdeno to submit a sworn affidavit to the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit within ten days of receiving the SCO. Zamora may face a case for Reckless Driving, while Cerdeno is looking at charges for Operating a Motor Vehicle with Defective Accessories, which carries corresponding penalties. The vehicle has also been placed under alarm until it passes a valid Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR).
Asec. Lacanilao warned that failure to respond within the given timeframe will be considered a waiver of their right to be heard, saying the agency will decide “batay sa mga ebidensyang nasa rekord.”
The LTO emphasized that the action is part of its ongoing effort to enforce accountability and tighten road safety compliance across the country.
