Maddie Madayag Ties PVL Record With 10 Blocks; Keeps Eyes On Next Game

Maddie Madayag had every reason to celebrate — after all, not everyone ties a Premier Volleyball League (PVL) single-game record. Ten kill blocks in one match? That’s elite-level stuff.

But for the ever-grounded Choco Mucho middle blocker, the numbers don’t mean much when the scoreboard doesn’t end in their favor.

“You’re only as good as your last game. So I can’t really bring that to the next game,” Madayag said, almost brushing off her monster performance as just another day at the office.

On Saturday, Madayag put up 18 points — including those record-tying 10 kill blocks — in Choco Mucho’s tough four-set loss to the league-leading ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 20-25, 22-25, 26-24, 19-25, at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.

Her defensive wall matched the PVL single-game record first set by Petro Gazz’s Riri Meneses back in 2021. And here’s a fun fact: Madayag already owns the UAAP record with 11 blocks in a single game. Still, she’s not letting it get to her head.

“I’m just doing my job on the court, so it’s done,” she said. “I don’t think those 10 blocks will carry over to the next game because it’s already in the past. Trabaho lang talaga, and kung ano ‘yung maco-contribute ko sa team, ‘yun lang.”

After the loss, Choco Mucho slid to 2-4 — now ninth in the standings and riding a three-game skid. It’s a tough spot for the Flying Titans, but Madayag believes the spark is still there — they just have to reignite it.

“I wouldn’t say we played that great today, but we’ve shown snippets of how we really play,” she said. “It’s a matter of figuring out how to be ourselves again.”

And when asked what’s missing? Her answer was simple — heart.

“I think it’s just the want to win again,” she admitted. “Skill-wise, okay naman kami. System’s good. Siguro ‘yung character namin inside the court, ‘yun lang ang kailangan naming balikan.”

Madayag may have blocked her way into the record books, but her eyes are clearly fixed on something bigger — getting Choco Mucho back to winning form.
