Magalong Resigns From Infrastructure Commission: 'The Crusade Against Corruption Continues'

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has stepped down from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), effective September 26, 2025.
In an official statement released Saturday, Magalong said the decision was not easy, but necessary.
“Once and for all, I want to make it clear—there is no conflict of interest in my role. My work as Mayor of Baguio and my service with the ICI have always been guided by one principle: the highest standards of integrity in public service,” he emphasized.
Magalong explained that recent developments have cast doubts on the independence of the ICI, which he considers the “bedrock of accountability.” Rather than allow those doubts to weaken the body’s credibility, he chose to step aside.
“I refuse to allow these doubts to weaken the ICI and its mandate. That is why I have chosen to step aside, not to abandon the fight, but to protect the very integrity of the fight,” he said.
The mayor vowed that his fight against corruption would continue, citing his past battles—from Mamasapano to the Ninja Cops probe—as proof of his commitment to truth and justice.
He underscored how corruption directly robs Filipinos of their future:
“Every peso stolen from the people is not just an act of theft. It is a school left unfinished, a hospital without medicine, a bridge that collapses, and a nation’s hopes betrayed.”
Magalong also called on Filipinos to remain vigilant and courageous in demanding transparency and accountability.
“This will be a long fight. The forces of corruption are deeply entrenched, but so too is the Filipino spirit of resilience and courage. Change will not happen overnight. As long as we remain vigilant, we will prevail,” he said.
Magalong ended with a reminder: “The power of the people will always be stronger than the power of the few. The crusade against corruption continues.”
