In a historic moment echoing the legendary "Thrilla in Manila," the International Boxing Association (IBA) has appointed boxing icon Manny Pacquiao as its new vice president. The announcement came following an IBA Board of Directors meeting held in Manila on October 1, 2025 — the anniversary of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s epic fight in 1975.

During the ceremony, Pacquiao was presented with the IBA badge and congratulated on his new role. IBA officials expressed confidence in Pacquiao’s leadership, noting his global popularity and commitment to the sport.

"I congratulate him on his appointment, wish him success, and am confident that through our joint efforts we will continue to develop boxing and advocate for athletes' rights on the global stage," an IBA representative said. "Our goal is to provide every young boxer with opportunities for career growth and development."

Pacquiao took to Facebook to share his gratitude, writing:

"Honored to be appointed as Vice President of the International Boxing Association (IBA). I’m thankful for the trust and the opportunity to serve the sport that has given me so much. My goal is to help inspire and guide the next generation of boxers around the world. 🥊🙏"

This new role positions Pacquiao not only as a legendary fighter but also as a key figure shaping the future of boxing worldwide, helping young athletes pursue their dreams in the sport he has championed for decades.
