Marcos Honors Marbil's No-Nonsense Legacy As Torre Takes Over Top PNP Post

It was a morning of gratitude and transition at Camp Crame as President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the Philippine National Police (PNP) Change of Command Ceremony and Retirement Honors for outgoing PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, on June 2, 2025.

Standing before the nation’s uniformed men and women, President Marcos praised PGen. Marbil’s unwavering stand against misconduct during his term that began in April 2024. Known for championing the “No Tolerance for Cover-Ups” policy, Marbil earned a reputation for cleaning house and upholding integrity within the ranks—an approach that resonated with the President’s own calls for accountability and transparency across all government institutions.

But Marbil’s legacy didn’t stop at internal reforms. He also pushed for something many in the service saw as long overdue: free legal assistance for military and uniformed personnel (MUPs) caught in civil, criminal, or administrative cases tied to their official duties. This advocacy culminated in the passage of Republic Act No. 12177, recently signed into law by President Marcos himself—a win not just for those in uniform, but for justice and fairness in service.

And let’s not forget the 2025 National and Local Elections. Under Marbil’s leadership, the PNP ensured safety and order during what many hailed as one of the most peaceful and credible polls in recent memory.

Taking the reins as the 31st Chief of the PNP is Police General Nicolas D. Torre III. No stranger to tough assignments, Torre is best known for his time as Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), where he led the charge in several high-profile cases. He makes history as the first Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) graduate to head the 280,000-strong force, hailing from the Tagapagpatupad Class of 1993.

As the baton passes from Marbil to Torre, the message is clear: the fight for a cleaner, more effective, and people-centered PNP continues. And with President Marcos standing behind the country's law enforcers, the path forward looks firm and focused.
