President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered round-the-clock road clearing operations to ensure the safety of motorists and residents affected by Super Typhoon Uwan, which left several areas flooded and roads blocked by debris.
In a Palace briefing on Tuesday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been working non-stop to clean up and repair damaged roads across the country.
“Pangulong Marcos Jr. inutos ang 24/7 clearing operations sa mga kalsadang hindi madaanan dahil sa Super Typhoon Uwan. Araw-gabi ang trabaho ng DPWH upang linisin at kumpunihin ang mga apektadong kalsada sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa,” Castro said.
She added that the President’s directive aims to make sure main roads are safe and passable, especially for communities still recovering from the storm.
According to DPWH data, nearly 40 national road sections were rendered impassable due to flooding, landslides, and fallen trees or power lines. Of these, 26 roads have already been reopened, allowing motorists and transport services to resume normal operations.
Clearing teams are still hard at work in several regions — 13 in the Cordillera Administrative Region, 10 in Cagayan Valley, eight in Bicol, and one each in NCR, Ilocos, Central Luzon, and SOCCSKSARGEN.
Castro assured the public that more roads will reopen soon as DPWH teams continue their extensive clearing operations nationwide.
