President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has called on all Filipinos to stay vigilant and prepared as Typhoon Uwan continues to strengthen while moving closer to Northern Luzon.
In a statement released Saturday, Marcos said all government agencies are now on full alert to ensure the safety of the public. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have deployed buses and trucks to assist with evacuations, while the DSWD, DPWH, AFP, and Coast Guard have pre-positioned rescue vehicles, lifeboats, and relief goods in areas expected to be affected by the storm.
To ensure smoother response operations, the President added that toll fees are being suspended for emergency convoys and responders, and special lanes have been designated for faster access to high-risk areas. The MMDA and local governments are also clearing drainage systems and flood-prone roads, while some malls have opened parking areas for residents in flood-prone communities.
Under the supervision of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), pre-emptive evacuations are underway in vulnerable communities to move residents to safer ground before the typhoon hits.
Marcos also reminded the public to stay calm but not complacent.
“Follow the advice of your local officials and evacuate immediately if you live in danger zones,” he urged. “Prepare your essentials and stay alert for official updates.”
The President emphasized unity and preparedness, saying,
“Every second counts. Let’s stand together. May God protect us all.”
