President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged law enforcement agencies to move quickly in enforcing the newly issued arrest warrants against former congressman Zaldy Co and 17 others implicated in alleged irregularities involving the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Sunwest Corporation.
In a firm statement, the President confirmed that the warrants are already out and told authorities there is no reason for delay. “May warrant of arrest na laban kay Zaldy Co at 17 iba pa mula sa DPWH at Sunwest Corporation. Kaya’t sa ating law enforcement agencies, huwag na nating patagalin pa. Arestuhin na ninyo sila,” Marcos said.
He also reminded implementing units to ensure the operation is executed properly and without mishandling. “Siguraduhin maisagawa ito nang mabilis at tama,” he added.
Marcos described the development as a strong indication that accountability is finally catching up with those involved in the controversial flood control projects. “Gumugulong na ang hustisya,” the President declared.
The arrest orders stem from graft and malversation charges filed by the Office of the Ombudsman, following findings from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). The commission earlier flagged questionable practices and substandard work in a ₱289.5-million flood control project, placing several DPWH officials and Sunwest executives under scrutiny.
With the warrants now issued, authorities are expected to immediately track down all the named respondents as the investigation intensifies and the case continues to unfold.
