Leading the charge for a greener tomorrow, the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Meralco, recently brought together a team of dedicated volunteers to plant native tree seedlings. Joining them were teams from Radius Telecoms, Inc., MPower, and Rockwell Land Corporation, all working together as part of the One For Trees program.
With the guidance of local forest rangers, the group’s mission was to help reforest the UP Laguna-Quezon Land Grant in Siniloan, Laguna. This area is a crucial part of the southern Sierra Madre mountain range and a key focus for conservation efforts.
Through its partnership with Fostering Education & Environment for Development, Inc. (FEED), OMF is committed to the long-term rehabilitation of this vital land. Since 2022, the One For Trees program has already seen the planting of over 200,000 trees in the land grant, with each new seedling representing another step toward a healthier ecosystem.
Anne-Marie Bakker, FEED Partnerships Director, shared her optimism about the growing movement. "The good news is that there are more and more of you supporting these efforts, and it's a growing tribe. I hope you will be inspired to keep doing it," she said, highlighting the increasing number of people joining the cause.
Jeffrey O. Tarayao, President of OMF, also spoke about the program’s success. "We are truly inspired that One For Trees has been living up to its name of bringing together so many organizations volunteering to plant trees and nurturing them," he said. Tarayao added that the initiative is not only fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among its partners but also providing a source of livelihood for communities in the reforestation areas.
Since its launch in 2019, the One For Trees program has made a significant impact, planting and nurturing more than 2.7 million trees to date across the country. This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of partnerships in creating lasting, positive change for the environment.
