To keep up with the fast-rising power demand in Southern Luzon, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has upgraded its Calamba 230 kilovolt (kV) -115 kV Delivery Point Substation — a major step toward improving the reliability and stability of electricity service in parts of Laguna and Batangas.

The upgrade, led by the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led power distributor, includes the installation of a third 300 megavolt ampere (MVA) power transformer, along with new 115 kV and 230 kV gas circuit breakers and advanced protection and control panels.

According to Meralco, the project will help sustain the growing energy needs of major commercial and industrial customers such as SM City Calamba, SM City Sto. Tomas, Mariwasa-Siam Ceramics Inc., Calamba Doctor’s Hospital, Philippine Manufacturing Co. of MURATA Inc., STMicroelectronics Inc., and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corporation — along with the nearby communities that rely on stable power.

The company emphasized that this upgrade is part of its broader push to strengthen its distribution network. “As part of its commitment to delivering high-quality, stable, and reliable service, Meralco continues to invest heavily in upgrading and modernizing its electricity distribution system,” the power distributor said.

Through these system enhancements, Meralco aims to ensure that homes, businesses, and industries in its franchise areas can continue to grow with uninterrupted power.
