MANILA, Philippines — September 1, 2025 — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has assured customers that its crews are on standby to respond to any service concerns that may arise as the southwest monsoon (Habagat) continues to bring heavy rains to parts of the country.
Meralco said it is closely monitoring weather advisories and coordinating with government agencies to ensure a quick response, particularly in flood-prone areas where the risk of power-related incidents is higher.
“We remind our customers to take extra precautions to ensure their safety, especially with the increased threat of flooding which poses a greater risk of electrical accidents,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
The company emphasized the importance of turning off the main power switch or circuit breaker immediately if floodwaters start entering homes. It also reminded customers never to handle circuit breakers or fuses with wet hands or while standing on wet surfaces. Appliances should be unplugged from sockets, permanently connected equipment should be turned off, and light bulbs unscrewed if possible. Customers are also advised to avoid contact with exposed or dangling wires. Once floodwaters subside, Meralco urges households to have a licensed electrician inspect their electrical systems before restoring power.
For service concerns, including power outages, customers may contact Meralco through its hotline at 16211, send a text to 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or reach out through its official Facebook page (facebook.com/meralco) and X account (@meralco).
