As Tropical Depression Isang brings more rains and the possibility of flooding, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is assuring customers that its crews are ready to respond to any power-related concerns that may arise.
The company said it is closely monitoring weather updates while reminding the public to take extra care to prevent electrical accidents during the rainy season.
“Safety is our top priority especially during this period when flooding and heavy rains pose greater risks of electrical accidents,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga. “We encourage our customers to be extra vigilant this rainy season and to observe safety measures before, during, and after a flood.”
Among Meralco’s reminders is to switch off the main electrical power or circuit breaker as soon as floodwaters enter homes. Customers are also urged to keep themselves completely dry before handling any electrical facility.
The company further advises avoiding contact with exposed wires, unplugging appliances, and turning off permanently connected equipment whenever possible. Once floodwaters subside, Meralco recommends seeking the help of a licensed electrician to check for water seepage in electrical systems. Customers should never touch a circuit breaker or replace a fuse with wet hands or while standing on damp surfaces.
For power outages and other concerns, customers may reach Meralco through its official Facebook page, X (formerly Twitter) account, or by texting 0920-9716211 and 0917-5516211. They may also call the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
