Meralco Powers Up Batangas For Bigger Business Growth

MANILA, Philippines, October 8, 2025 — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, is stepping up its role as a key partner for businesses and investors eyeing expansion in Batangas—now one of the country’s fastest-growing economic hubs south of Metro Manila.
In line with its commitment to drive inclusive growth, Meralco said it’s ready to meet the province’s increasing power needs through its advanced distribution network and scalable energy solutions.
Currently, Meralco supplies power to Sto. Tomas, Batangas City, and San Pascual, but it’s looking to bring the same level of progress to more areas in the province.
Meralco Senior Vice President and Chief External and Government Affairs Officer Arnel D. Casanova said the company is eager to partner with the two local electric cooperatives—Batangas Electric Cooperative (BATELEC) I and II—to strengthen Batangas’ energy infrastructure.
“Meralco is committed to supporting BATELEC I and II by investing capital and deploying technical expertise to enhance electricity service in the province. We’re here to empower—not replace—electric cooperatives. By working together, we can elevate service quality and unlock greater economic potential for Batangas,” Casanova said.
From 1992 to 2024, Meralco-serviced areas in Batangas posted a 13.6% annual growth rate—much higher than areas outside its coverage. Last year alone, Meralco’s energy sales hit 2,034 MW, almost double that of BATELEC II and nearly four times that of BATELEC I.
Earlier this year, Meralco submitted a formal joint venture proposal with the two cooperatives to improve power reliability and service delivery across the province.
As the country’s largest power distributor, Meralco says its growing presence in Batangas underscores its mission to bridge energy access gaps and fuel inclusive development in more local economies.
