Meralco Teams Up With Government Communicators To Empower Consumers

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is stepping up its efforts to help consumers take charge of their electricity consumption—this time, by enlisting the help of government communicators.
During the 1st Quarter Conference of the Association of Information Officers in Metro Manila (AIMM), Meralco emphasized the crucial role of public information officers in spreading awareness about energy efficiency and electricity management.
The Power of Collaboration
Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco’s Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications, highlighted the importance of working together with government agencies to ensure that consumers receive clear and timely information.
“Meralco is committed to fostering a stronger relationship with our customers through transparency and education. Public information officers play a unique role in making sure essential information reaches communities,” Zaldarriaga said during the event at Meralco’s headquarters in Pasig City.
Understanding Your Electric Bill
To help consumers make informed decisions about their electricity use, Meralco Customer Care Officer Rita Constantina Capalad broke down the different components of a Meralco bill. According to her, understanding the breakdown of charges can help customers manage their consumption more effectively.
Meanwhile, Meralco PowerLab Manager John Pocholo Pobina shared practical energy-saving tips, showing how simple adjustments in daily habits can lead to lower electricity costs.
Strengthening Consumer Awareness
Meralco sees partnerships with organizations like AIMM as key to its educational efforts. By working with government communicators, the power distributor hopes to reach more consumers and empower them with the knowledge they need to be more energy-efficient.
Aside from Meralco, representatives from PhilHealth, the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) also spoke at the conference, sharing valuable insights with government communicators from 17 local government units and various national agencies.
By joining forces with these information officers, Meralco is making strides in ensuring that consumers have the tools and knowledge to make smarter energy choices.
