In a strategic move to accelerate the Philippines’ shift toward sustainable mobility, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the country’s largest power distributor, has signed a key partnership with Vietnam’s top electric vehicle (EV) players—V-Green Global Charging Station Development Corporation and Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (Green GSM).

The three companies formalized their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), signaling their joint commitment to build and expand a robust electric mobility ecosystem across Metro Manila and other key urban centers.

At the core of the partnership is the development of low-carbon mobility solutions, including the rollout of EV charging stations and electric taxi hubs. Meralco, V-Green, and Green GSM will work together to identify strategic locations, deploy efficient charging networks, and promote the wider adoption of electric vehicles. The initiative also involves technical cooperation and the exchange of expertise in EV technologies and infrastructure design.

“This partnership with Meralco marks a key milestone in V-Green’s mission to accelerate the green mobility revolution in Southeast Asia,” said Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green. “By combining our experience in EV charging with Meralco’s deep local reach, we’re aiming to rapidly expand access to clean, reliable transport solutions in the Philippines.”

Green GSM, a pioneering electric ride-hailing service powered entirely by VinFast EVs, sees great potential in the Philippine market. “We’re excited to bring our 100% electric fleet to more cities nationwide,” said Dao Quy Phi, CEO of Green GSM Philippines. “This is about more than just transportation—it’s about contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Filipino communities.”

For Meralco, this collaboration aligns with its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. The company sees its role as pivotal in enabling widespread EV use through accessible charging infrastructure and energy solutions.

Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership. “This collaboration brings together infrastructure, innovation, and vision. It’s about redefining how our cities move, how we think about energy, and how we shape our future,” Pangilinan said. “We are committed to building a transport ecosystem that is future-ready and inclusive—one that Filipinos across the country can experience and benefit from.”

Both V-Green and Green GSM are closely linked with VinFast, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer. In their home market, the trio has built an integrated EV ecosystem—from manufacturing and ride-hailing to charging infrastructure. They now aim to replicate this model in the Philippines.

With clean transportation gaining momentum in Southeast Asia, the partnership between Meralco, V-Green, and Green GSM is poised to become a game-changer. Beyond convenience and cost-efficiency, the initiative offers a path to a more sustainable and resilient urban future—one that’s powered by electricity and guided by a shared vision of green growth.
