Former MILF Commander Abdullah “Bravo” Macapaar, together with several groups from Lanao del Sur, has elevated to the Supreme Court their concerns over the newly enacted Bangsamoro Autonomy Act 77.
In their petition, the groups argued that the law’s provisions on the redistribution of parliamentary districts in the Bangsamoro region are neither fair nor consistent with what the law requires. They stressed that before implementation, the measure must undergo judicial scrutiny to ensure that representation is equitable and that the principles of democratic participation are upheld.
Macapaar and his supporters said the redistricting risks marginalizing certain communities, particularly in Lanao del Sur, where political and social dynamics remain sensitive. They maintained that district allocation should reflect population size and the actual needs of the constituencies, not just political considerations.
The Supreme Court has yet to act on the petition, but the case underscores continuing debates on how power and representation are to be structured under the evolving Bangsamoro governance framework.
