MMDA Issues Tickets To 15 Jeepneys As Manibela Protest Disrupts Connecticut-EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued traffic violation tickets to 15 public utility jeepneys on Wednesday after members of the transport group Manibela blocked part of Connecticut Street at the corner of EDSA during the third day of their transport strike.
The jeepneys were cited for illegal parking and obstruction near the Department of Transportation (DOTr) building. MMDA officials pointed out that Connecticut Street is part of the Mabuhay Lanes, an alternative route meant to ease congestion on EDSA and other major roads in Metro Manila.
MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes acknowledged the protesters’ right to express their concerns but emphasized that demonstrations should not cause inconvenience to the public.
“The government respects the right to free speech and peaceful protest, but these should not disrupt traffic flow and inconvenience others,” Artes stated.
Authorities, including the Inter-Agency Task Force, continue to monitor the ongoing transport strike from the MMDA Communications Command Center (MMDA-CCC) in Pasig City. Meanwhile, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were deployed to ensure order at the protest site. MMDA traffic enforcers also assisted motorists to minimize congestion caused by the demonstration.
The monitoring team includes representatives from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), PNP, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Joint Task Force NCR Command (JTF NCRCom), Metro Manila LGU traffic heads, and MMDA’s Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) district heads.
As the transport strike continues, authorities remain on high alert to maintain peace and order while keeping Metro Manila’s roads moving.
