Monsoon Mayhem: 303K Families Hit, 14 Dead As Storms Batter PH

The wrath of the southwest monsoon, intensified by three tropical cyclones—Mirasol (Mitag), Nando (Ragasa), and Opong (Bualoi)—has left a staggering 303,357 families reeling across 11 regions, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) Friday morning report.
That’s over 1.2 million people from 2,472 barangays in areas including Luzon, Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM now facing the brunt of the severe weather.
Homes and Shelters
• 7,391 families are currently staying in 389 evacuation centers.
• Another 8,706 families are being assisted outside these shelters.
• A total of 3,831 houses were damaged—3,607 partially and 224 totally destroyed.
Casualties and Injuries
So far, 14 deaths have been reported, though only 3 are confirmed, all in the Cordillera region. Eight in Cagayan Valley and three in Central Luzon are still under verification. There are 17 reported injuries (10 confirmed) and 2 people missing, with one case verified.
The Cost of the Damage
The trail of destruction is heavy:
• ₱794.8 million in infrastructure losses
• ₱38.5 million worth of damage to agriculture
As rains continue and floodwaters rise, authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant, heed local advisories, and prioritize safety.
