The combined effects of the southwest monsoon and three successive tropical cyclones — Crising, Dante, and Emong — have led to significant human and infrastructure losses across the Philippines. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the total number of reported fatalities has risen to 34 as of the agency’s latest situational report released Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025.

Among these, only two deaths — one in Northern Mindanao and another in Caraga — have been confirmed. The remaining 32 cases, reported from several regions including Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Western Visayas, are still under verification. The NDRRMC also noted 18 injuries, 11 of which remain unconfirmed, along with seven individuals reported missing, three of whom have been validated.

The series of weather disturbances began with the development of a low-pressure area (LPA 07f) into Tropical Depression Crising on July 16. Crising intensified into a severe tropical storm before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on July 19. Just days later, two new systems — LPA 07g and LPA 07h — developed almost simultaneously into Tropical Storm Dante and Typhoon Emong. Dante left the PAR on July 24, while Emong made landfall in Pangasinan late that evening, eventually weakening and exiting PAR on July 26 as a tropical depression.

Heavy monsoon rains enhanced by these systems brought widespread flooding and landslides, affecting 6,670,506 individuals across 7,143 barangays nationwide. As of Tuesday morning, 33,694 families remain in 1,199 evacuation centers, while 21,299 families are receiving assistance outside of these facilities.

The storms also left considerable destruction in their wake. A total of 15,220 homes were reported damaged — 13,554 partially and 1,666 completely destroyed. Meanwhile, estimated losses in agriculture have reached PHP1.68 billion, while infrastructure damage is currently valued at PHP7.36 billion.

As the country enters the peak of the rainy season, the NDRRMC continues to monitor potential weather developments and has urged the public to remain alert and cooperative with disaster response efforts.
