A magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook La Union and nearby provinces at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (Oct. 9, 2025), according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake’s epicenter was traced to Pugo, La Union. While no major damage or injuries have been reported so far, residents across Northern Luzon definitely felt the ground move.

Here’s how the tremor was experienced in different areas:

Intensity V – Baguio City

Intensity III – Aringay, La Union; Bontoc, Mountain Province; Sison, Pangasinan

Intensity II – San Fernando, La Union; Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Dagupan City

Intensity I – Lingayen and Urdaneta, Pangasinan

Phivolcs said aftershocks are possible but no tsunami threat was raised.

Many Baguio residents reported feeling the quake strongly, describing it as a quick but noticeable shake that rattled furniture and startled people at work and in schools.

Authorities remind the public to stay alert and follow standard safety measures during aftershocks: “Duck, cover, and hold.”
