Actress and television personality Nadia Montenegro has formally resigned from her post at the Office of Senator Robin Padilla following reports linking a Senate staffer to alleged marijuana use within the Senate premises.

In her written explanation and resignation letter addressed to Atty. Rudolf Philip B. Jurado of Padilla’s office, Montenegro clarified her side after receiving two memoranda dated August 13 and 14, which required her to address circulating news reports.

The reports, published on August 12 by Abante and Politiko, alleged that an unnamed Senate employee was caught smoking marijuana inside the restroom of a senator’s office, with the scent supposedly detected by security personnel in the halls of the Senate.

Montenegro, however, stressed that no evidence was ever found to substantiate the reports. According to the accounts she cited, a personnel from the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) allegedly smelled marijuana but found nothing upon inspection. The staff in question, whose identity remained unnamed in the articles, reportedly said that the odor was from an air freshener. No apprehension or formal charge was made.

Despite this, Montenegro acknowledged the weight of the controversy and opted to relinquish her position in the senator’s office.

Her resignation, addressed to Atty. Jurado, was filed within the period required by the memoranda. It also served as her formal compliance in explaining her side of the issue, which she insisted lacked basis and evidence.

Montenegro’s departure marks a swift response to the incident, which had already attracted public attention. Senator Padilla’s office has yet to issue further statements regarding her resignation.
