The upcoming "Trillion Peso March" on Sunday, September 21, is set to be a powerful, nationwide demonstration against corruption, with organizers and authorities making final preparations for the large-scale event.

Kiko Aquino Dee, a spokesperson for the Trillion Peso March, explained that the rally at the People Power Monument is a culmination of parallel protests happening across the country. He noted that organizations in Cebu, Negros, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, and Bohol will also be holding their own activities, all under a unified call for an end to systemic corruption.

The protest’s program is designed to deliver a clear message, structured into three parts: "Sobra Na" (It's Too Much), "Tama Na" (Enough is Enough), and "Ikulong Na" (Jail Them Now).

The "Sobra Na" segment will feature firsthand accounts from the victims of corruption—community members, farmers, and urban poor who have been directly affected by alleged anomalies, such as substandard flood control projects. This portion aims to humanize the impact of graft and link it directly to the struggles of ordinary Filipinos.

The "Tama Na" section will then turn to those who have witnessed corruption from within. Esteemed figures like former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Justice Antonio Carpio, and former government official Heidi Mendoza are expected to speak, offering their testimonies and expert insights on the issue.

The final segment, "Ikulong Na," will serve as a direct and unyielding call for justice. Conveners of the march will demand that those involved in corruption be held accountable and face legal consequences, emphasizing that impunity for such acts must not be tolerated.

Beyond the speeches, the event is filled with symbolic acts. It will begin at 1:00 PM with an interfaith prayer and cultural presentations, followed by a "salubungan" (welcoming) at 2:00 PM where various sectors will converge. The program will also feature the unveiling of a white ribbon symbol, representing unity and a shared commitment to fighting corruption, with youth voices being highlighted to underscore that corruption steals from the future generation.

PNP to Maintain Peaceful Order

In anticipation of the rallies and a coinciding transport strike, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its forces on heightened alert in Metro Manila and other key areas. According to PNP Spokesperson PBGEN Randulf T. Tuaño, the police will maintain a professional and non-partisan stance, with over 50,000 personnel deployed nationwide to ensure public safety and protect the rights of protesters.

Tuaño assured the public that the PNP will exercise maximum tolerance and will prioritize coordination with rally organizers to ensure a peaceful assembly. He also mentioned that the police are prepared to assist commuters affected by the transport strike, with police vehicles on standby to provide "libre sakay" (free rides) in coordination with other government agencies.
