The National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) arrested Michael P. Romero, also known as “Mike Romero,” in Pagadian City on October 7, 2025, for Inciting to Sedition under Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code, in connection with the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175).

The arrest came after Romero made a controversial Facebook post featuring President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The post, which included the caption “Headshot” along with an image of the President marked with a red arrow, quickly gained attention online.

In response, NBI-CCD agents launched an immediate investigation. Through cyber patrolling, they traced the post back to Romero. On October 6, 2025, agents conducted a pursuit operation in Pagadian City. Working with the NBI-Pagadian District Office (NBI-PAGDO), they conducted surveillance that confirmed Romero’s residence.

When confronted on October 7, Romero admitted that he owned the Facebook account “Mike Romero.” He was promptly arrested, informed of his constitutional rights, and transported to the NBI-CCD office in Pasay City for booking.

Director Santiago praised the operation, saying, “We commend the agents of NBI-CCD and NBI-PAGDO for the successful operation. We urge the public to use social media responsibly and avoid posting malicious content.”
