NBI Recovers Cash, Documents In Zaldy Co's Condo; Seeks Interpol Red Notice
FILE
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recovered cash and important documents from two of the three vaults found inside the Bonifacio Global City condominium unit of former congressman Zaldy Co, intensifying the manhunt for the embattled former lawmaker.
According to NBI head agent and spokesperson Palmer Mallari, agents had to use acetylene to force open the locked vaults during their search operation. The items recovered are now part of the bureau’s evidence as investigators dig deeper into the cases linked to Co.
As the search expands beyond the country, the NBI on Friday, December 12, formally requested an Interpol red notice to help track down and arrest Co, who is now considered a fugitive. Mallari confirmed that the bureau has already developed a lead on his possible whereabouts, though authorities have yet to disclose details while coordination with foreign partners is underway.
The request to the International Criminal Police Organization signals the government’s heightened effort to bring Co into custody, allowing law enforcement agencies worldwide to assist in locating and detaining him.
With the investigation uncovering more evidence and international coordination now in motion, the pressure continues to mount on the former congressman as authorities close in.
