The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced on Thursday that it is still validating reports of a fatality in the National Capital Region (NCR) linked to the effects of the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, and Typhoon Bising.
In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said the number of affected families has climbed to 32,606 — equivalent to 103,274 individuals — across 61 barangays in the NCR, the Ilocos Region (Region 1), Central Luzon (Region 3), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Media reports earlier indicated that a one-year-old girl died after being swept away by floodwaters during an evacuation operation in Las Piñas City on Tuesday night. Authorities have not yet released further details as verification continues.
As of Thursday, the NDRRMC reported that 104 families, or 419 people, are currently staying in three evacuation centers, while an additional 1,022 families — around 3,026 individuals — are receiving assistance outside of evacuation facilities.
The Office of Civil Defense clarified that the figures include both those displaced by flooding and those whose homes remain intact but are still in need of aid due to the inclement weather conditions.
Damage to homes has also been recorded, with 16 houses reported damaged so far — four in Central Luzon completely destroyed, and 12 in the Cordillera region sustaining partial damage.
The agency noted that it has yet to receive official figures on the extent of damage to infrastructure and agriculture in the affected areas, but assessments are ongoing.
The NDRRMC assured the public that response and relief operations are continuing, and updates on validated casualty figures and damage assessments will be released as soon as they are confirmed.
