Capital1 Solar Spikers’ prized rookie Bella Belen is set to finally make her much-awaited professional debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference, and the collegiate standout is facing the transition with a mature and positive mindset.
The three-time UAAP MVP has been busy adjusting to her new environment with Capital1, and so far, she says the change has been surprisingly smooth.
“Honestly, I didn't have too much trouble with the transition,” Belen shared. “It’s a new system, a new team, so I know I really needed to adjust. But so far, the way we’re gelling as a team is good.”
Pressure is a "Privilege"
With her decorated background, expectations for Belen's performance in the PVL are naturally high. However, the pressure doesn't faze her—it motivates her.
“I really, genuinely love being challenged, whether it’s in any league or against any opponent,” Belen explained. “For me, the main thing is I just need to prepare well for how I will perform this conference, especially since it’s my first time playing in the PVL.”
Far from being intimidated, Belen sees the weight of expectation as a badge of honor.
“Of course, there’s pressure on my part as a rookie, but I try to take that pressure as a privilege,” she added. “It means I’m feeling it, and all I need to do is perform to the best of my ability.”
Excitement for the Challenge
Belen is very optimistic about the potential of the Solar Spikers this conference.
“I’m really excited to see how our team performs this conference,” she said. “If you look at us individually, I believe we can really keep up with all the opposing teams. We just need to work three times harder to achieve our goals.”
When asked about the opponents she’s most looking forward to facing, the rookie mentioned a couple of very familiar names.
“For me, it’s my former teammates, Ate Erin and Sheena,” Belen revealed. “After 11 or 12 years of being teammates, I'll finally get to play against them. I’m excited to see how I’ll perform. And of course, against Coach Sherwin —my former coach—I'm excited for that match-up, too.”
