Nokia And Fibertime Team Up To Bring Fast Fiber Internet To 400,000 More South African Homes

Nokia is joining forces once again with fibertime™ to speed up South Africa’s fiber broadband expansion — this time reaching an additional 400,000 homes in underserved townships across the country.

The new rollout is part of fibertime’s bold mission to connect 2 million homes by 2028, helping more South Africans gain access to reliable, high-speed internet.

To make it happen, fibertime will use a mix of Nokia’s cutting-edge IP and fiber access technologies to build semi-mobile networks that deliver unlimited, high-speed connectivity to homes, businesses, and communities — no matter where they’re located.
Under the partnership, fibertime will deploy:

• Nokia’s Lightspan access nodes and Wi-Fi 6-enabled fiber access points for seamless connectivity,

• ONT Easy Start to automate and simplify modem activation,

• and the 7750 Wireless Access Gateway, which enables customers to use a single Wi-Fi SSID to stay connected even as they move around their township.

To ensure network reliability and scale, fibertime will also roll out Nokia’s Altiplano platform, Network Services Platform, and Altiplano Fiber Health Analyzer — advanced tools that help detect issues before they impact users.

This latest phase builds on Nokia and fibertime’s earlier collaboration to deploy fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Mangaung, and Stellenbosch — expanding digital access and opportunity across South Africa’s growing communities.

“The partnership marks another major step in bridging the digital divide, bringing fast, reliable internet to places that need it most.”
