NorthPort Out, Pureblends In? PBA Franchise Sale Nearly Sealed

A fresh face is set to join the PBA just in time for its golden anniversary season opener on October 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed that the sale of the NorthPort Batang Pier to Pureblends Corp. is close to being finalized, calling it practically “a done deal.”
“Before Monday, it should be completed,” Marcial revealed during the 2025 PBA Media Day presented by ArenaPlus at Elements, Centris. “It’s just the paperwork left. As far as the Board is concerned, it looks good.”
Lawyers from both camps are finalizing the acquisition details, but Marcial said the Board has already given a green light.
Adding more buzz, Johnedel Cardel is set to make his PBA coaching comeback, taking the reins of the soon-to-be-rebranded squad. The team will carry a new product brand under Pureblends, though Marcial teased that the official announcement will come straight from the company.
Interestingly, while the deal is still pending signatures, the Batang Pier roster—led by Calvin Abueva and Joshua Munzon—still attended Media Day. But instead of their familiar orange jerseys, the players showed up in plain white shirts, a subtle hint of the transition.
The event also saw support from team collaborators including Don Benito’s, Yellow Cab, Better Blend, CURVE Coffee, Fitbar, Buffalo’s, Hungry Daddy, and Daily Fantasy.
If all goes as planned, fans can expect to see a Pureblends-powered squad hit the hardcourt as the PBA celebrates 50 years of hoops action.
