Ombudsman Dismisses Complaint Against Remulla Over Duterte ICC Arrest Issue

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed that the Office of the Ombudsman has dismissed the complaint filed against him over the arrest and turnover of former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The complaint had been lodged by Senator Imee Marcos, who questioned Remulla’s statements and actions related to the ICC proceedings. Remulla said the Ombudsman’s decision affirms that there was no basis for the allegations.
Senator Marcos, however, was quick to clarify that she had already filed a motion for reconsideration, hoping the Ombudsman would review and reverse its earlier ruling.
The development comes as the ICC continues proceedings on crimes against humanity charges against Duterte, with debates intensifying at home over whether the Philippines should cooperate with the Court.
